Girls and Boys

I came to remember this song thanks to Blaqk Audio's Cover. I think it's great in both versions, though the new one sounds a lot more american and modern, a little less Euro. Anyway, it does not take out its fresh almost disco sound. I was a little surprised that for BA's version there was not any change in the lyrics, specially for that part that goes "love in the 90's is paranoid", but again, what could be said instead of that? I guess it is left like a metaphor or something.

I have heard and read many interpretations of this song... Some people think it deals on sex freedom and/or bisexualism/homosexualism, etc... Others think the meaning of this song it's not sexual preference but empty sex... I guess this last one goes for that "love in the 90's is paranoid", as if no one thinks of love, but only of sex. It is also about party on the Mediterranean, which includes the last 2 interpretations. Also, it conveys a little critic about young people, like if saying that thinking of sex and do almost anybody (just because you 'love' someone, and doesn't matters his/her gender) gets their mind a little slow... Making everyone thinking in the same way, having no more than 5 thoughts in head.

This song was the second one I heard from Blur (the first one being "Song 2"), and I liked it pretty much, even if it's quite different from their 'brit' sound. The new version is also ok, since Havok's voice it's very similar to Damon's.

"GIRLS AND BOYS"(Blur)

Street's like a jungle
So call the police
Following the herd
Down to Greece
On holiday
Love in the 90's
Is paranoid
On sunny beaches
Take your chances
Looking for

Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys
Always should be someone you really love

Avoiding all work
'Cuz there's none available
Like battery thinkers
Count your thoughts
On one two three four
Five fingers
Nothing is wasted
Only reproduced
You get nasty blisters
"Du bist sehr schön"
But we haven't been introduced

Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys
Always should be someone you really love

Deep Red

"Deep Red"
(Apoptygma Berzerk)

Deep Red is blurring my eyes
I'll wait in the closet until tonight
I want you to explain your feelings for me
The blade on your skin is what matters to me
I will wait for you to scream and shout
But you open your mouth the blood runs out

The knife cuts through her skin
And your heart starts beating faster
You feel the pressure within
As you look into her eyes

First, it's pretty evident this song has to do something with Dario Argento's motion picture, or can it be just a coincidence they both share the title? It could be, of course, but it's not very likely. I guess this song has do with sex or with a murder. Or maybe with sex seeing as a way to inflict wounds. It's greatly poetic that first part of "deep red is blurring my eyes", as if saying that rage, passion, furor, etc., is taking over the narrator, dominating him, nourishing his hard feelings but also giving him patience until the right moment rises ("I'll wait in the closet until tonight"). Also, this guy (killer?) thinks that to produce fear on somebody, to take someone to her limits is an efficient way to communicate ("I want you to explain your feelings for me"). Maybe he just wants the thrill of hear her "scream and shout" and does not expect death, since that "but...you open your mouth, the blood runs out" bit. It's evident the narrator knew that if he wanted her to scream and shout she would have to open her mouth, but maybe he wanted to listen to her "eyes".

It's not my time

Thank God I almost got completely over from my finger's wound. It still hurts a little whenever I put my hand in my pocket, which I do rather often, since I keep my music device in it. But anyway, I can play and I can write again. That's great news. To celebrate that I'm beginning with this blog... Let's see if this lasts... I get bored of internet pretty easy... :P

First, this song from 3 doors down, the first single off their latest album... Not a great song indeed, pretty much the same than in their "17 days" record and of course, a lot like some off "away from the sun". Anyway, I liked the lyrics very much (the music reminds me of "when I'm gone"), maybe just because it seems to relate to my life.

"IT'S NOT MY TIME"
(3 doors down)

Looking back at the beginning of this and how life was
Just you and me and love and all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
Now the currents slowly pulling me down
It's getting harder to breath
It won't be too long and I'll be going under
Can you save me from this?

'Cause it's not my time I
'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know I won't go

I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
But I'm taking them back
All this time I've just been too blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live
Is not what we have it's what we believe

It's not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
I won't go

There might be more than you believe
There might be more than you can't see
It's not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything
I know It's not my time I'm not going
There's a will in me
Now it's gonna show
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
There might be more than you believe
There might be more than you can see I won't go
No I won't go down

My interpretation: just when you're kinda sad and all that because some love failed, you just begin to find some other things that interest you. Not that you haven't seen them before, but you start to appreciate them because you need something to get a hold onto... I had this lover who I first listened the second album by 3 doors down with, and we have lot of "plans and dreams", which were finally lost because they were made out of dust. Now, some years later I have to find a way out to rebuild my own life again. I like specially the part that goes "I'm in a world that tries to take them away, but I'm takin' 'em back", sounds pretty optimistic...
